"On Marriage" from The Prophet is what Megan always envisioned would be spoken at her wedding.  Her grandmother gave her the book long before she could truly understand the words.  It has held a special place in both her life and the life of her mother, Mendy.  So, it was fitting that Mendy would present the reading at Megan and Tyler's wedding! 

Tyler and Megan settled on Sodo Park as their wedding venue.  A perfect place of a shabby chic celebration.

 

The wedding colors were an elegant grey and black and white stripes.  






 




The backdrop for the ceremony was a triptych of vintage doors, floral "header," lights and candles. 

I loved that the parents and stepparents all offered their blessings to Megan and Tyler.

Then, it was time to seal their vows with a kiss.

I cannot tell you how much Tyler and I appreciate all that you did for our wedding. The ceremony was heartfelt and deeply touching, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your involvement.   ~ Tyler & Megan

See Each Other First at the Ceremony or At the Reveal?

In days past, the bride and groom always saw each other first at the ceremony.  It was a magic moment.  It was tradition!

Today, many couples are opting to see each other at a "Reveal" because is has a number of advantages. 

The bride and groom still get to prepare for the "moment" individually.  Here you see Megan, ready to approach her beloved, Tyler, at Sodo Park.
 

Usually, the groom, Tyler, faces away from the bride, Megan.  There is that same anticipation and excitement about seeing each other for the first time.


 






There is so much to take in.  I think that this is one of the main advantages of "The Reveal."  The bride and groom have the space and time to be themselves and to talk and touch and share their joy.  If it happens at the ceremony, there isn't the same freedom to openly express how you feel.
 

Plus, it is a great chance to capture photographically these special moments, the way Gabe Rodriguez and Boone Rodriguez did here.  These are images that Megan and Tyler will treasure all their lives.

And, finally, there is a smooth transition from the ceremony to the reception, especially when both are taking place at the same venue.  The bride and groom even have more time to mingle with their family and friends and actually experience and enjoy their own wedding!

How Kent and Emily Got to "Yes!"

Meet a very loving and fun Chicago couple who will wed in July at Sodo Park.  Kent Buttars (yes, my dear husband) will be officiating.  (Yup, this will be a double dose of Kents!)

Emily: Enjoys the outdoors, late night dance parties, all things sparkly and bubbly, home-cooked meals prepared by Kent. She has an eye for fashion, home decor, and of course...men!

Kent: Has a passion for the NY Giants, Syracuse University basketball and almost any slize of pizza.  He has put "fantasy football" on his time sheet at multiple employers (hope they're not reading this) and is a master at quoting good lines from almost any Will Ferrell movie or classic SNL skit.

Met: At the end of their senior year of college at Northwestern University. 

Proposal:

Date - Wednesday, November 23, 2011, the day before Thanksgiving 

Location - Emily's family's house in Seattle

Details - The bride-to-be claims to have experienced a temporary loss of memory (known as a "blackout" in some circles) right when Kent took to a knee.  She doesn't actually remember a word Kent said. Luckily she came to in time to say YES!

Future:  Bright and hopeful.  A great journey in store.

SODO Park Hosts Allen and Rachel's Wedding

Seattle offers great photo opportunities

One of my favorite remembrances from Kent's family are two magnetic Scottie dogs:  one is white and one is black.  We have them on our refrigerator.  Being magnetic, they are attracted (irresistibly) to one another.

How classic - Post Alley.

When I saw Rachel and Allen together, I felt it was the same.  There was a magnetic force that drew them together.  And I noticed the biggest smiles when they looked at each other.  Here are two photos of them.  The sequence reminds me of the Scotties:  two people who are meant to be together.


During the ceremony, the two only had eyes for each other. 
 








The vows have been spoken, the rings exchanged, Allen and Rachel are wed!

SODO Park is a popular and dramatic wedding venue.  A favorite since it opened!

Coming from two different heritages, the ceremony and the reception reflected both.  Allen and Rachel wanted to honor everyone and to have family and friends feel comfortable.


Yes, there is always time for a kiss!  Those first few after the ceremony are especially sweet.

The blue of SODO was a perfect background.

The bride, groom and their wedding party were looking good ... and were so very delighted for Allen and Rachel. 


East or West, North or South---weddings are meant to bring people together.  That is exactly what Rachel and Allen's wedding did!

Andrew & Elizabeth in the City

Herban Feast opened its SODO Park venue last year and it was the perfect place for Elizabeth and Andrew to celebrate their wedding.

Like most couples, their wedding photographs were taken before the ceremony.

It is such a good idea for a number of reasons: there is more time to take all the pics you want, you can go to different locations, there is less anxiety at the ceremony itself and there is still a chance to have the "first moment" and actually talk to each other, you have more time to celebrate with your guests.

The bride and groom decided on using the city itself as the background. From downtown streets to landmarks, such as Pike Place Market, there were many unique and colorful settings to choose from.

Of course, SODO is very photogenic too ... as is the bride, groom and wedding party!

The room was aglow: the aged wood warmly lit. Candles bringing out the charm and history of the setting.

Kent officiated. The personal words about Elizabeth and Andrew evoked a smile or two.

Guests enjoyed cocktails while the recption area was reset.

After a delicious repast, it was time for cake.

What is not to like at a wedding, especially a wedding with a couple so in love and a celebration in a setting so historic and fun. Urban chic to the max.
