Regency-Themed Wedding for Laura and Evan

Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice  Mansfield Park, Emma -- these works of Jane Austen -- plus the clothing of her era inspired this lovely wedding.

I watched as Laura had her hair done.  Minute by minute she moved from this decade back in time.  Then, she and Evan left to get dressed.

The procession began with Laura's niece, dressed in an adorable matching outfit was adorable!

Then, Laura and Evan emerged.  Fantastic!

The wedding was an intimate occasion of family and the closest of friends.  It was held at the Angle Lake home of Laura's mother.  The bride and groom wished to marry near the lake but rain moved things indoors.

Even so, the setting was cozy and completely fitting.

It was a joy to be included in the ceremony, which was a blend of contemporary and history.

The ring pillow made for Laura's grandfather while he was recovering from a war injury in Europe.  His nurse created this for him ... and it is a treasured family heirloom.

Laura and Evan adapted a version of the "seven blessings" into their wording and had a beautiful document created as a keepsake.

Here is one of them:

May we be best friends and work together to build a relationship of substance and quality. May our sense of humor and playful spirit continue to enliven our relationship.  May we respect each other’s individual personality and perspective, and give each other room to grow in fulfilling our dreams.

Afterwards, all gathered round the table to feast and celebrate Evan and Laura's good fortune.

In the words of Miss Austin, do not you think the two deserve to enjoy a terrific, dear time together!

Many thanks to Wallflower Photography for these wonderful images.

Private Wedding Ceremonies - Very Intimate, Very Personal

There are good reasons to have a private wedding ceremony - Patricia Stimac, Seattle Wedding Officiant
Tonight I had the great good fortune to officiate for a couple at Green Lake (we are located just a few blocks away).  They invited their moms and sister and two friends.

We found the perfect place in front of a mock orange tree.  It was in full bloom:  both beautiful to look at and scrumptious to smell.

The two want to keep their wedding private because they will soon have a public ceremony.

So why have a private ceremony?

There are so many reasons, assuming the couple are truly in love and have seriously considered their decision.  (Kent always says that marriage is THE most important decision in life):
  • If the bride or groom are in the military, it may be advantageous to be married in order to receive military housing or other benefits.
  • If either needs insurance coverage.
  • If they want a destination wedding with just the two of them in Seattle.
  • If they want a destination wedding in a foreign country and want to be sure their marriage is recognized in the United States.
  • If they are located far from family and friends.
  • If there are immigration concerns.
  • If one is seriously ill and the healthy spouse needs to be able to have access to the other spouse.
  • If the couple has financial concerns.
  • If there are children involved.
  • If the two are ready to be together and aren't ready to have it publicly known.
And there are so many more.

Remember, a private ceremony can be a very sweet and intimate experience, filled with loving emotion and hope.

Kent and I both enjoy officiating them.

Peter and Tiffiny's Wedding Ceremony - A Family Affair

Tiffiny and Peter's wedding ceremony at the Salish Lodge - Wedding ceremony officiated by Patricia Stimac, Seattle Wedding Officiant

April brings more than showers: it brings wonderful weddings too.  And this April day was absolutely perfect!

Tiffiny and Peter, along with their immediate families, gathered on the Falls Terrace of the Salish Lodge for their intimate ceremony.

The candles on the table are from their parents' wedding ceremony.  Now that is tradition.  And each year on their anniversary they renew their vows and relight the candle.  Peter and Tiffiny plan to do the same.
Words of wisdom from bride and groom's parents during their ceremony - Patricia Stimac, Seattle Wedding Officiant

The two asked their parents to share some words of wisdom  with them.  The bride and groom are obviously close to their folks and it really meant a lot to Peter and Tiffiny.

The bride and groom exchanged traditional wedding vows
along with personal words expressing their love for each other.
There is certainly nothing more heart-warming than that!

What is Your Style of Wedding? An Intimate Ceremony is Shanshan and Wei's Choice.

Collage of Photos of Wei and Shanshan in Magnuson Park
Wei and Shanshan are a wonderful couple!  I met them while officiating for friends of theirs and Kent had the honor of celebrating their wedding ceremony at Magnuson Park in the Sandpoint area of Seattle.

Wei, Shanshan, Shanshan's parents and Kent Buttars

They decided on an intimate wedding in an outdoor setting.  Shanshan's parents and close friends witnessed the exchange of their weddings vows.

I take you to be my husband/wife,
my partner in life and my one true love.
I will cherish our union
and love you more each day
than I did the day before.
I will trust you and respect you,
laugh with you and cry with you,
  loving you faithfully
  through good times and bad,
  regardless of the obstacles
  we may face together.
I give you my hand, my heart, and my love,
  from this day forward
for as long as we both shall live.
Shanshan and Wei kiss.

The two are so much in love.  (Is that why we love officiating?  - I think so!)

It is a joy to just look at them.

Colin and Kathy Marry in Bellevue In a Very Unique Ceremony

Kathy loves Colin, Colin loves Kathy!  They are two very playful, imaginative people who have been exploring the world together and have discovered in each other a life-long partner.

Kathy wore a traditional wedding dress and veil.  Colin was a bit more colorful!

They decided to wed near the play set in their backyard.  And, they had a tent (just in case -- it is Seattle after all!)

Everyone gathered near the trees.  Since it was an intimate ceremony, each person had a great view.

The words of the ceremony were uniquely Colin and Kathy.

Loved their vows!  The words totally suited them.

Colin pledged:
I promise to dance when you need a lead.
I promise to build your garden when you need to grow.
I promise to find you socks when you are sleepy.
I promise to fly with you when you dream.
I promise to take care of you when you’re broken.
I promise to love you for the rest of my life.

Kathy said:
I promise to guide you when you are lost.
I promise to cook you tasty foods when you are hungry.
I promise to squish the spiders when you are scared.
I promise to fly with you when you dream.
I promise to take care of you when you’re broken.
I promise to love you for the rest of my life.

Everyone was very happy!!!

Day changed to night ... and the yard became a magically place.  The two stood nose to nose, playful as ever and ready to make their way in the world.

We wish them for them many more days of walking their dog, making dinner and finishing chores together, to hiking the crater around Yakima, beach combing on Camano Island and taking road trips, to thinking up math poems and finding even better jungle gyms!

Many thanks to Scott Eklund of Redbox Pictures for the images.
