We gathered before the wedding at the Mt. Baker Community Club on a crisp October afternoon. While we munched on croissants and sipped OJ, we mingled and talked and laughed and got to know each other. Formal photographs were taken and spirits were high.When it was time, Calico and her father entered. She was striking in a Chinese-influenced red dress - the color of happiness.
Making their way.to the front row, their parents stood on either side of the couple so the bride and groom could receive their blessings before they exchanged their marriage vows.
Calico and Solomon wanted a very personal ceremony. They decided on the Passing of Peace and reading of one of their favorite poems, "Song of the Open Road" by Walt Whitman. We had worked together on what marriage meant to them -- their thoughts and words engaged everyone.
Solomon and Calico wrote their own vows, then lit a unity candle.
The candle itself was a work of art, crafted with love. Friends and family members gathered to create it. Friends and family members got together to create it, each person adding tokens of well wishes to this truly unique candle.
A delighted couple stepped forward in life, to the cheers of everyone present.
Delicious food followed at the reception ... and then the dance began Solomon is a musician and Calico is a dancer. Solomon's friends and fellow band members (the Solomon Douglas Swingtet) played music while guests danced the night away. The music brought out the Lindy in everyone.
