Mary recently emailed me that she and Tim celebrated their sixth anniversary this month. I officiated for them at the Monte Villa Farmhouse. Her words brought back good memories.

Vener + Alicia = Wedding at Gas Works Park

Love was apparent when Alicia and Vener wed!

Kent and I truly enjoyed meeting this wonderful couple. I had a chance to get to know them better through our premarital sessions and to help them create their ceremony, while Kent had the honor of officiating for them.

All was in readiness! From the flower girls and ring bearers ...

... to the lovely ladies.

The wedding party was joyous. It was a day to celebrate. Playful photos were taken

... and so were more formal ones.

Then, the ceremony began!

Does Vener look happy or what?

There were touching moments.

And moments of down right laughter!

The couple honored both of their heritages. Vener is Filipino so three traditions were included in the ceremony. First, was the arras or 13 coins to reflect financial prosperity and well being for the couple.

Then, the placing of the veil to represent both blessings and protection.

The moms were delighted to have this role in the ceremony.

Finally, the placing of "the cord" over their shoulders, symbolizing their union.

There was also a time to include Sasha, their adopted daughter and center of their family.

I love how the broom can be
decorated in the colors of the wedding.

After being pronounced Mr. and Mrs, the two "jumped the broom," as a nod to Alicia's cultural history.

Then, it was time to celebrate.

Love this photo of Vener and the "money dance." It is the first time I saw the money crown.

I think everyone had fun with it.

And, you can't forget the cake! It was created by the Blue Ribbon Cooking School, along with the flowers, catering, linens, place setting and day-of-coordination.

The Sanctuary at Admiral Hosts Michael and Andrea's Wedding

I was so taken with Andrea when I first saw her in her wedding dress. She had selected a Grecian-type wedding dress and then coiffed her hair to match. The overall look was stunning. It is wonderful to see brides find their own style.

OK ... Michael looked great too!!!

The couple married at the Sanctuary at Admiral (which will be having an open house on January 26th). It is an historic setting and fit the size of the couple's wedding perfectly.

Looking forward to sharing more photos from their wedding. It was one to remember!!

I saw Michael and Andrea a few months after their wedding and they were still beaming with love. Wishing them a lifetime of happiness.

Randy and Erin's Wedding Ceremony at Novelty Hill/Januik Winery

The bride and groom really wanted an outdoor wedding. Even though it was mid-October, the skies were partially clear and the rain held off so the ceremony took place on the stylish Novelty Hill/Januik Winery grounds. (Every time I see the bocci courts, I smile. My sisters and brother and I have participated in a tournament or two. We're not very good but it sure is fun.)

Lights were strung on the trees just in time for the early evening ceremony. There was magic in the air.

Most of the wedding photographs were taken before the ceremony. I think that is such a great idea. Erin and Randy had a "reveal" and could actually talk and hug and kiss. A sweet moment. Then, there were some formal photographs. Ladies first!

Then, the "guys!" So good to see that couples are choosing people from both genders who are important to them. In this case, Randy's sister.

All together!

Something borrowed, something blue.

Time for the ceremony to begin. Erin was stunning in a gown by Priscilla. And, her dad was bursting with pride.

There were serious words, loving words, and a few light-hearted words too.

Frank, one of the groomsman, presented a reading on friendship.

Itis often said that it is love that makes the world go round. However, withoutdoubt, it is friendship which keeps our spinning existence on an even keel.

After the vows and exchange of rings, the mothers presented the wines for the unity wine ceremony. What would be more appropriate for a wedding at a winery.

It was "crush" time at the winery. The smell of grapes and juice was intoxicating!

Then, it was time for some "bride and groom" photos. The lighting was very interesting, making for striking images.

The cake was as delicious as it looked.

The reception and and the first dance. The night was lively and fun.

Liz and Ray's Home Wedding

After the ceremony, we made our way outside for a group photo.

There are many reasons I was delighted to meet Ray and Liz.

First, they are a wonderful couple.

Second, we live just blocks from each other.

Third, they are "word" people who were very engaged in creating a ceremony that perfectly fit them.
Fourth, they decided on a "jeans" wedding theme.

Fifth, they raise chickens (I'm toying with the thought of raising them also).

Since it was a late morning wedding,
some java was appreciated.

The two decided to wed in an intimate ceremony at their home. So they "spiffed" their place up, invited their family and very close friends over and were married in their living room. It gave them a chance to enjoy a cup of morning coffee and greet everyone as they arrived.

It was a sunny, autumn day. The room was filled with warm light and warm hearts.

Oh, you can't see them very well but we were also wearing handmade socks. Liz had knit hers and Ray's. I had made mine.

Everyone ... and every critter was very attentive.

Small touches made the day special. Liz had a vintage handkerchief in her back pocket.

Two readings were presented: one by Ray's father, Les ...

and another by their good friend, Adrienne. Both had strong emotional impact.

What a great way to begin the day ...

and a great way to begin a life together!

Rylan's Baby Blessing

Isn't she cute!

In 2009 I was honored to officiate for Chris and Sandy. Last weekend, I was fortunate to officiate for their daughter's baby blessing. And a true blessing she is. Rylan is an adorable child and her family is delighted she is in their lives.

Her parents wanted to have a ceremony to celebrate her arrival in the world, to acknowledge their love and commitment to her, to recognize the support Rylan has from her grandparents and to name her godparents.

We gathered at their home for the blessing. Rylan was wearing a baptismal dress that has been in Chris's family for several generations. It was a perfect symbol of Rylan being the reflection of a new generation yet connected to her lineage.

Sandy and Chris selected the wording for the ceremony from some of the sample ceremonies provided. They wanted Rylan to be anointed with sacred oils and water. The oil was selected for its qualities of protection and safety. The water for its sense of tranquility and peacefulness.

Everyone was happy! Sandy sent me an email with these words:

"Pat created such a meaningful ceremony forour baby blessing- it was unique and very personal. Our entirefamily felt included in the celebration. "

The guys were looking quite dashing, from the ring bearer to the groom.

The gals were all decked out and ready to celebrate a wedding.

This was followed by a butterfly release! This is so much fun. It is a ceremony element that remains forever hopeful. Just the idea of the butterflies carrying the wishes for the bride and groom's happiness and love to the heavens is a sweet one.

At the reception, the Candy Bar was a big hit!

Kelly and Bryan, along with their guests, danced the night away to the music DJ'd by Sounds Unlimited. Wishing them a lifetime of great softball games (that's how they met), great dancing, and a great love.

The wedding ceremony was personal to the couple, with words about their initial meeting, what they loved about each other, what they were looking forward to in their life together, a unity celebration they liked and, of course, the butterfly release that was so dear to Kelly's heart. The Kelley Farm Hosts Kris and Maria's Ceremony!

The brides take the floor and show their dance moves.

This weekend Kent and I were privileged to officiate for some pretty amazing couples. One of them is Maria and Kris. The two drive by The Kelley Farm on occasion and when they were considering a place to celebrate their commitment to each other, decided to stop in. It was just what they were looking for: a farm setting that brought back childhood memories, a beautiful place to affirm their love, plenty of open space, fresh air and more.

These are just a few photos I took that evening (more to come from Corliss Photography).

Dan Wheelon on guitar and Jesse Hull was the vocalist.

This is what the barn looks like. The original structure was the center part, with the "wings" added when it was remodeled. The building features radiant floor heat, two bars (one movable), a kitchen, a huge fireplace, screen for the slide shows and a huge patio for outside ceremonies/events.

Everyone loved the slideshow! So many photos of Kris and Maria's journey to their life together.


I believe Maria prefers pies and Chris likes cakes so both were available. I like both as did most of the guests so it was a great treat.

The ladies shared the first taste of cake.

They looked great in their coordinated pants suits!

The two are thankful for all the help they received from friends, including Ann Robbin, who provided harp music before the ceremony and Connie, who presented a reading, for those who transported the flowers, helped decorate the barn and did so much more.

Snuffins Catering provided the yummy good, Turning Leaf Productions captured it all on video and David Leu was the DJ.

Vintage Look for Andrew and Sheila's Wedding

Andrew and Sheila were atop the world on Saturday!

Style - Sheila and Andrew certainly have it. They value family and friends, wanted everyone to feel comfortable and to have fun, and looked for ways to express themselves.

So, here are the basic choices they made:

* Ceremony and Reception Site - Court in the Square

Menu: Taco bar, popcorn and cotton candy stations

* Rehearsal Site - Central Cinema to view "Dirty Dancing" (Sheila swoons over Patrick Swayze - she once created a Christmas tree decorated entirely with his photos) where we savored pigs in a blanket and munched popcorn, doughnuts and classic candies

* Coordinator: Sheena Kalso, The Invisible Hostess

* Cake: Morfey's Cakes

* Cupcakes: Vegan - Bouteloua Bakery

* DJ: DJ Tecumseh (Isaac Dyckhoff) and JoJo Dyckhoff of Bamboo Beats

Ok! Here's some pics of the experience.

Let's begin with the invites. They were Harlequin romance novels with new covers featuring "Sheila and Andrew -- living in sin ... no longer. There were an ill-sorted pair ..."

They purchased a bunch of them, a friend redesigned the cover, a library pocket was glued to the front cover and a library check-out slip was the invite. How creative is that!

Guests were greeted by this amazing display.

The dresser was covered with wedding photos of parents and grandparents, a guest book which featured Andrew and Sheila, schoolhouse signs and books, plus a bowl of all-time favorite chewing gums: Clove, Beemans and Black Jack.

The ceremony took place on the inside stairs: the guys in tailored grey suits, the lades in navy blue dresses of their choice. Three sets of couples framed the bride and groom. (Thanks, Sheena, for the photo.)

Sheila's bouquet had a locket containing the wedding photos of her mother and her grandmother.

What a view!

After the ceremony, family photos were taken in front of the Court in the Square and then, the couple went to the rooftop for their pictures. The Sounders were playing (they won!!!) so there were celebratory explosions for dual reasons.

(Jackie was the the couple's main contact at Court in the Square that evening -- you couldn't have asked for a more wonderful person.)

And, don't forget the shoes ... Sheila loved that the bottoms of her shoes were red! She said she bought them because of the color.

Then, the grand entrance of Mr. and Mrs!

Sheila collected 100 vintage handkerchiefs -- they decorated all the tables.

Cake and vegan cupcakes were available so everyone could satisfy their sweet tooth (along with cotton candy and sugar sticks).

(I ate one of the vegan cupcakes before I realized it was vegan. Very, very yummy!)

My Harlequin romance novel ends with the following words:

"Marti, you're some kind of wonderful creature. ... The next thing I want to hear you say is that you love me. She closed her eyes. She felt her heart hammering again. "I love you, Stephen, I love you. I love you." Happy ending.

Sheila and Andrew -- a happy ending to you too. Many, many kisses, so much happiness, a love everlasting!

Matt and Leticia -- You're Off to Great Places

A "dreams and castles" wedding.

What an amazing wedding all around!

Matt and Leticia are living in Germany but decided to wed at Thornewood Castle in Lakewood. We planned their ceremony and completed premarital preparation via Skype (woo hoo technology!).

So when we actually met (a week before the ceremony), it felt like we already knew each other and we were greeting long-lost friends.

The ceremony was a combination of traditional, funny, and poignant. Traditional words, Dr. Seuss vows, sci-fi playfulness. It was so them.

Both heartwarming and lighthearted.

Matt is full of surprises. He wrote a love letter to Leticia and had is best man, Bobak, delivered it just before the ceremony. A very sweet moment.

The day was perfect -- a little overcast so it was great for photographs -- yet warm enough for comfort.

Since it was a destination wedding, most of the guests travels from the East Coast and beyond to be there. One of the friendliest and most fun gathering of people we have met.

Leather bound and a true treasure.

A very special addition to the ceremony was the Krutar family bible. VERY OLD and so amazing.

Another unforgetable moment was the song performed by Katie and Beatrice, both opera singers.


After the ceremony, everyone was jumping for joy!

Isn't this a great group of people?

It is the time machine. I think these two will go far.

Then it was time for cake! Yes, they are Doctor Who fans!

Bride's Shoes on Grass

In Seattle's summer, everyone wants an outdoor wedding ceremony. Our summers are so amazing!

One consideration is walking on grass in high heels. Yes, you can walk on your toes down the aisle so the heels don't sink into the ground but standing on your toes for even 15 minutes can be a challenge. Think "wedge-heeled" shoes for grass, "dancing shoes" for indoors. And be comfortable, as well as stylish!

Bryan and Kari Discovered Bhy Kracke Park is a Queen Anne Hidden Treasure for Celebrating A Wedding Ceremony

Kent and I had the distinct pleasure of meeting two wonderful mothers - Bryan's mother and Kari's mother - at the Seattle Wedding Expo. We enjoyed each other's company. Since our booth was right next to the dresses, we had great fun watching the young ladies find their perfect dress.

The park is tucked into a quiet neighborhood and looks out over Lake Union. Kari and Bryan had the chance to share their vows on a perfect summer day.

Kari and Bryan gave roses to their mothers as a gesture of appreciation.

The park is perfectly situated for a late afternoon wedding. The guests appreciate the shade.

MARRIED!

Kari and Bryan's choice of a wedding site also offered photo opportunities at nearby Kerry Park, with spectacular views of downtown Seattle.

Then, on to the Blue Ribbon Cooking School for signing the marriage certificate.

Yup, they're married and they have the papers to prove it!

The couple cut their cake ... and then "cut a rug." The celebration continued.

The Great Hall at Green Lake -- Another Gem in North Seattle for Weddings

Several months ago, Kent and I were participating in a wedding show and I heard two brides talking about this "new" venue in Green Lake. That's all I could gather from my "eavesdropping" and inquiries but I have been curious about exactly where and what the mysterious Green Lake venue is. (We are located in this area so were keenly interested in it.)

Last week, out of the blue, Shelby Sewell of Foodz Catering and Acalia introduced me to Nelda Danz, explaining she was a co-owner and facility coordinator for The Great Hall at Green Lake! (I love it when things like this happen. So we quickly made arrangements to meet at the hall.)

OK ... where is it? 7220 Woodlawn Avenue NE, Seattle 98115. It's on the same street as Rosita's (love their chile colorado) and Mockingbird Books (a children's bookstore), just a block north of Green Lake and the Green Lake Library. It is a three-story brick building that was originally a church so it has a stately grace. Over the last few years, it has been restored and is ready for celebrating.

Looking from the Fireside Room to the Stage in the Ballroom

The Ballroom (2,000 square feet) is spacious and can hold up to 286 people, while contiguous Fireside Room (700 square feet) is cozy for a more intimate wedding, providing a space for any size occasion. I loved the high ceilings, the great chandeliers, the airiness and the light. There is also a stage, which could be used for the ceremony. There are really a number of options possible.

There is also a comfortable "bride's room," which is also a bonus (available for a small additional fee).

A small kitchen is available so you can bring in your catering company of choice.

John and Chris Found a Unique Place to Wed in Bonney Lake

Kent and I have often officiated in the Bonney Lake area. Last weekend I learned about a place "new" to us but an established part of the area: the Swiss Sportsmen's Club.

Chris and John live nearby but they weren't aware of it either. Thankfully, a friend, who is also a realtor, shared his find. The couple needed a space to accommodate about 200 and to do so on a budget. The Sportsmen's Club was perfect.

It is large enough, has its own kitchen (John's mom and friends catered the rehearsal dinner using it), a bar area (which served a beer John himself brewed), a large bride's room and plenty of parking.


Lovely Other Dragons do love to shop, especially for shoes as cute as these!

The ceremony was poignant and touching. John's sister, Angie, presented a reading entitled "Maybe ... " and Chris's fourth grade teacher, Nancy, read an excerpt from Edward Monkton's A Lovely Love Story.

In this very funny and cute love story, the main characters are a fierce male dragon and a lovely female dragon.

Wedding dresses can help keep the bride WARM!

Thankfully, there were some dry, but chilly moments when formal outside photographs were taken.

And, to just take in the fact that John and Chris are married!!!

I loved how the couple had so much support in making their day special: everyone chipped in to decorate the hall, Chris's Aunt Janice handpainted signs for the cupcakes, for the piano and for the "Mr. and Mrs," plus Janice and Nancy painted all the lanterns used for the table centerpieces. It truly was a community event.

The bride and groom decided to make their wedding memorable with food and beverage favorites: brick oven pizza from Inferno Catering, pickles put up by John's mother as part of an antipasto plate, cupcakes from Hello Cupcake and beer (both John's brew and three selections of Rocky Coulee beer made in Chris's home town of Odessa). The guests were all smiling.

So the Dragon and the Lovely Other Dragon sealed the deal with one more kiss and became Mr. and Mrs!

John and Chris had very good things to say about all the wedding professionals who helped make their day special. When the wedding needed to be rescheduled because Chris's mom passed away just days before their scheduled celebration, the wedding professionals were very supportive in adjusting to the new date. "They are such great reminders that there are still wonderful people in the world!"

Kudos to Eric Ross of ECR Photography (for letting me tag along and snap these pics). Chris has known Eric and his family since she was young. She used to babysit for his children! She described him as "great," a true professional.

Jennifer Iovanne played the piano during the ceremony. I enjoyed meeting her and Chris said she was so lucky to find her -- she is both incredibly nice and a great pianist too!

The DJ was Chris Curtis from South Bay Sounds. John and Chris found him through a friend and they were very pleased. They said "he plays great music for all ages and knows when to play what."

Floral arrangements were by Windmill Garden, who the couple said was amazing to work with. Even though they had already ordered the flowers for the first wedding, they didn't charge John and Chris for them! Very nice, indeed!

The beer was from Rocky Coulee. The owners' son is a good friend of John's from high school and Chris's mom was a member of the "backroom girls," who meet on Fridays for a beer, to play a few games and to enjoy some conversation. The bride and groom have reserved some of their wedding "pint" glasses to contribute to the group as a tribute to Chris's mom.

The garden was perfect for classic wedding photos!

I feel so fortunate! Kent and I often officiate at wedding ceremonies that are held in absolutely beautiful and/or unique wedding venues. It feels like we are honored guests in so many places ... and we are very grateful.

We also are invited into homes - both grand and simple - to celebrate wedding ceremonies among an intimate circle of family and very close friends. This weekend I was delighted to be a part of Khanitha and Ryan's wedding at his parent's home.

Family members got together the day before the wedding and as a team decorated the living room (it was used for the ceremony and then reset for the reception dinner). Loved the chair decor!

And this is how it looked at the dinner.

Since Khanitha is from Thailand, the couple selected Thai Siam to cater the event. The bride and groom sampled food at various restaurants in the area and judged this restaurant (located to close to me in Ballard) to be the most authentic. (During the cocktail hour, the chicken skewers with peanut sauce were my favorite - they were tender, had a rich, creamy taste without the sauce and were truly yummy when both were combined. Can't wait to bring Kent there!)

Upon entering, guests were greeted by this site. Ryan explained how he and Khanitha visited a bridal area in Thailand, where you can select clothing and have your photo taken in a wedding-like setting.

Hair pieces are so popular now.
I like how this one gives the impression of being a veil.

Khanitha is both beautiful and warm-hearted. We had a chance to talk just before the ceremony and she was rehearsing the words she wanted to share with Ryan during the ceremony.

Here's the whole gang! Asked everyone to just be creative in their expressions. They were very nice about it.

Family is obviously so important to the two. The younger men found ways to amuse themselves and to enjoy just being around each other.

After the formal photos, Khanitha and Ryan were determining who was going to be the "boss" in their relationship. (They were actually just being playful.)

The two are obviously looking forward to their life together! What better thing is there than to find that person to share life with? Wishing them long life, continued happiness and unbounded love!!

Sheena Kalso of The Invisible Hostess made sure everything ran smoothly and that the dinner settings looked gorgeous.
Food for the cocktail hour and the reception was provided by Thai Siam.

Steve and Lingling Exchange Their Wedding Vows at Clise Mansion

Some days are just magic ... and this is one of them. It's March 19th here in Seattle. It's sunny and almost warm!! Lingling and Steve wed under two symbols of double happiness in Marymoor Park at the historic Clise Mansion. They are obviously blessed.

Daffodil yellow was the color of the cake. With real daffodils as accents on the cake table. It is the season for them!

Ok, the family did the formal photographs ... and then a fun one! These always make me smile. Everyone was so happy for the couple.

Since I was in the ceremony, I don't have any pics of the actual event. It was dear. Roses to the mothers, reading presented by Steve's sister, Michelle, and then the vows and ring exchange.

The bride and groom decided to use a picture mat as their guest book.

Kent and I were married long ago but I still remember the feeling I experienced when we each said our vows. Whenever I hear another couple saw their words to each other, it touches me ... and reminds me of our wedding ceremony. Good memories.

There is a sweet gazebo on the lawn. Perfect for photos.

Steve and Lingling decided to be traditional and not see each other until the ceremony. So afterward they took a few minutes to complete the family photos and then enjoy a bit of time taking their pictures.

It was just so much fun to watch the two of them together. Both are a bit shy in a very endearing way.

It is obvious the two love each other. I'm certain they will walk side by side for many years to come.

The double happiness symbol is over 1,000 years old. It is believed to bring good luck in love and marriage Feng Shui masters suggest keeping the Double Happiness Symbol in the Marriage and Romance corner of the house (the Southwest corner). Doesn't it look like to happy people holding hands and dancing through life?

Colin and Kathy Marry in Bellevue In a Very Unique Ceremony

Kathy loves Colin, Colin loves Kathy! They are two very playful, imaginative people who have been exploring the world together and have discovered in each other a life-long partner.

Kathy wore a traditional wedding dress and veil. Colin was a bit more colorful!

They decided to wed near the play set in their backyard. And, they had a tent (just in case -- it is Seattle after all!)

Everyone gathered near the trees. Since it was an intimate ceremony, each person had a great view.

The words of the ceremony were uniquely Colin and Kathy.

Loved their vows! The words totally suited them.

Colin pledged:
I promise to dance when you need a lead.
I promise to build your garden when you need to grow.
I promise to find you socks when you are sleepy.
I promise to fly with you when you dream.
I promise to take care of you when you’re broken.
I promise to love you for the rest of my life.

Kathy said:
I promise to guide you when you are lost.
I promise to cook you tasty foods when you are hungry.
I promise to squish the spiders when you are scared.

Everyone was very happy!!!

Day changed to night ... and the yard became a magically place. The two stood nose to nose, playful as ever and ready to make their way in the world.

We wish them for them many more days of walking their dog, making dinner and finishing chores together, to hiking the crater around Yakima, beach combing on Camano Island and taking road trips, to thinking up math poems and finding even better jungle gyms!

Lovely Lady and Gallant Guy Wed in Sylvan Grove

The "reveal" took place at the Sylvan Grove.

It seems inevitable that Jeff and Emily would be together. From their computer science class where they passed notes back and forth, riffed on the lectures, learned about each others' interests and doodled to illustrate a point, their path was clear.

The sheep are adorable!

The bride and groom's wedding was informed by Emily's rendition of a cute little sheep bouncing across the page. Jeff burst into laughter when he saw it. The bouncing sheep was a whimsical and welcome contrast to the binary world they inhabited ... and it soon became their mascot.

Emily created the sheep in her bouquet. (Doesn't it look like an idyllic pasture scene?) Jeff sported sheep on his cuff links.

Love the pink!

He was ready from his cuff links to his ever-so-classy shoes!

The grove itself created a natural arbor.

Their ceremony took place very near their offices. It was a perfect location!

Jeff and Emily decided on a "ring warming." Each guest had the opportunity to hold their rings and inbue them with their well wishes and blessings.

Meg had people in stitches and in tears!

They also invited a good friend to present a playful poem about why they liked each other.

Then, it was time for Emily and Jeff's vows, which they wrote themselves. So funny, so touching. I loved every minute of them!

The very happy couple exited. It was time to celebrate.

All and all, a very, very good day!

I'm certain Emily and Jeff will always find happiness in their adventures.

Blake and Cary Wed at the Pan Pacific Hotel

The bride and groom have known each other almost all their lives, from playing T-ball in preschool (ok, they don't really remember too much about that but do have photos of it) to Cary inviting Blake to their high school TOLO. Each year their love has grown stronger ... until it was obvious they wanted to spend all their days together.

The ceremony was truly wonderful! Cary had been waiting for their wedding day for years and you can see her happiness that the day arrived. Blake couldn't imagine life without Cary. Their love radiated throughout the room.

One particularly poignant aspect of the ceremony was when Scott, Cary's brother and a professional singer, performed "Marry Me a Little." I don't think there was a dry eye in the room.

Hand and hand the two look forward to their life together!

The Pan Pacific is such a beautiful hotel and a great venue to celebrate a wedding. I always feel happy when I'm there. Obviously, Cary and Blake are happy too!

There are several rooms in which the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception take place which makes the flow of the evening seamless.

Plenty of room for the romantic first dance! City DJ provided the music.

Plus there are so many wonderful nooks and scenic spots for a kiss!

Matthew and Angela Finally Say "I Do!"

"I do" - two words Angela and Matthew have wanted to say for years!

O'Dell Center in Kent had an open house today. We were happy to be invited to the event and to learn about a venue that is new to us. Kent was our representative.

The highlight of the afternoon was his exchange with Matthew and Angela. The two married a few years ago. They had met with us and at the time thought our fee was a bit over their budget. They decided to go with another officiant.

Angela and Matthew recognized Kent immediately and were excited to share their "wedding ceremony story" with him. In hindsight, the two wished they had chosen one of us to officiate for them.

Their wedding day was going very well ... until the ceremony. The officiant had a "melt down" and in the confusion, skipped pages of the ceremony. Angela noticed and pointed this out to the officiant several times. When all was said and done, the couple didn't realize until after the ceremony that they had never actually said, "I do." They regretted not saying these two simple words to this day.

Angela wanted to make it right and asked Kent if they could do so on the spot. Kent was overjoyed to oblige. The couple joined hands, Kent asked if they would take each other as husband and wife, they jubilantly responded, "I do," and kissed.

Satisfaction at last!

Kent asked for a photo and permission to share their story, which was happily given. Matthew and Angela look forward to seeing this blog post.

Finding the Perfect Officiant for You!

Last week we met with a couple who were so in love and so concerned about finding the "perfect" officiant for them. Each came from a different culture and different religious background. They had many considerations but nothing seemed to work.

First, they thought of asking the bride's pastor to officiate, but circumstances didn't allow that. Plus, the groom didn't have a relationship with the person.

Then, there was the friend of a friend ... but they knew there wouldn't be a close connection with that person and there was huge anxiety about the type of ceremony they would have. Not a good option.

The next step was looking on the Internet. And that is where they found us. The bride and groom were so relieved. They were practically dancing when they left our home/office. They had found an officiant who honored both their communities and looked for ways to bring them together, an officiant they liked and enjoyed the company of, an officiant they trusted, an officiant who had the experience and resources to create an amazing ceremony with them, an officiant who was organized and would guide them in finding wording they loved, an officiant who helps them plan for and direct their rehearsal so they could enjoy it, a person who they feel comfortable with when they shared their very personal wedding vows, an officiant they want at the reception to share their joy.

E/M Fine Art Open House

The white theme really worked.

Kent and I attended the open house at E/M Fine Art last night. The gallery is run by Roland Crane and Amanda Hauk ... and is a sweet space.

To get an idea of what a reception would look like, a number of tables were set and decorated with creates from Herban Design. I liked this one in particular, with it pussy willows and calla lilies so in tempo with the season.

Kent and I enjoying the space!

Of course, we had to check out what it would be like to stand in the officiant space. The brick wall provide a textural background, the trees and uplighting add ambience and the candelabras would work perfectly for a unity candle celebration. It felt good. Easily, over 100 people could be seated for the ceremony.

This is the entrance to the gallery. The back panel can be moved to whatever position you like. It is a great cocktail area.

Herban Designs were showcased on all the tables. Love the curling tendrils of this one.

A congenial place to meet and talk!

Upstairs is the bar/lounge area. This photo doesn't really do it justice. You can look over the railings to the happenings below.

And you have to love the food! Herban Feast featured pan seared scallops on paella, along with a cheese spread and passed appetizers. Quite yummy!!

There really is an art to food photography. This was scrumptious!!

Let's see. Alan Chitlik was the DJ. Sadie and Jay from Sadie and Jay Photography were taking photos. Herban Feast provide the floral designs and the food. These are just some of the people who made it a very wonderful night.

Mark and Denise - A Valentine's and Chinese New Year Wedding

Talk about an auspicious day to marry -- February 14, 2010.

Denise and Mark wanted to celebrate both the Western day of Love and the Eastern day of new beginnings.

In numerology, I believe, it adds up as well:
2 for February

+ 5 for the day

+ 3 for the year

10, reduced to a prime number is 1,

the number of new beginnings.)

The bride and groom are obviously happy!

So family and friends gathered at the Blue Ribbon Cooking School, which was decorated beautifully in red and white, of course. The joy of the day was evident -- all the way down to the ring bearer!

The couple selected a poem written by Lao Tzu to share during the ceremony.

See clearly

your love is a great mystery.

It is like an eternal lake

whose waters are always still and clear like glass.

It is like a deep well

whose water are cool and pure.

Drinking from it you can be reborn.

You do not have to stir the waters or dig the well.

Merely see yourself clearly and drink deeply.

Mr. and Mrs. exit with huge smiles on their faces!


The view from to top is well worth the climb up!

One of the many things I love about the Blue Ribbon Cooking School is it's proximity to so many Seattle landmarks. The water tower at Volunteer Park is incredible! It backdrops the wedding party so nicely.

Acalia Open House

The buffet station was beautiful!

Kent and I were fortunate to be invited to Acalia's Open House, which is always a great time. The space is so bright and airy, even on a cloudy winter day. It just feels good to be in the atrium.

There were several food presentations. The "spring" fare featuring the braised ribs (my favorite entree) was at the buffet, the "summer fare" which was served at several tables and included chicken, the gyros at a separate station. Plus, there were passed specialties.

I love appetizers ... and Foodz Catering had some very good one. My fave was the cured salmon on a shrimp chip (please forgive me if I named the base incorrectly). It tastes great.

There was popcorn with truffle oil, shrimp on coconut rice and duck on endive. All good.

Zack and Kristine kept us "on beat."

We caught up with old friends, Kristine, and her son, Zack, of Wave Link Music, Inc, who were the DJs.

Victorian Cake from New Renaissance Cakes

Scott Eklund of red box pictures and Bonnie Lyons of New Renaissance Cakes were also there. I realize that Bonnie's cakes are as pretty as a picture but I really enjoyed tasting all the flavors. I lean toward the Belgium Chocolate, the Hazelnut, the Poppyseed, and the Carrot Cake. Kent was chocolate down the line: Belgium Chocolate, Chocolate Espresso and Chocolate Orange.

We also made new friends: Katie Cunningham of Dogwood Designs Floral Studio and Cindy Dovinh, Sales and Marketing Manager of the MarQueen Hotel and Inn at Queen Anne.

And I apologize to Shelby Sewell, Chef and Owner Acalia Event Space and Foodz Catering. We did talk with her but I didn't take out my camera until afterward.

Photo Booths

What a group!

Last night while Kent and I were talking with a couple who were planning their wedding, the topic of doing something fun and unusual during the reception came up ... and I remembered what a great time we always have with photo booths.

At the Seattle Wedding Expo last weekend, there were two variations. The Aura Photo Booth is actually a draped space that allows quite a few people to be included in the photo. The photos to the right include one officiant (me), four photographers and a facility coordinator. We are a fine looking group, aren't we?

The advantages of this booth is that there is room for a number of people to be included in the photo, they do provide props for fun photos and each person receives a copy of the images.

Other booths we recently have had tried out are 321 Photo and Robert Riner Studios.

The other possibility was offered by Vivid Images Photography. Kimberly Halinen had a red curtain set up and a number of wooden signs and props. She had flash on stands and personally took the photos.

What I liked about this booth was the interaction with Kimberly, the playfulness of the signs and glasses and more, the ability to take a number of photos and the quality of the images.

Jennifer and Scott of Red Fish Blue Fish also offer such a booth called Studio-On-The-Go.

What a great idea all around. Thanks everyone for the possibilities of great memories.

Hotel 1000 Hosts Wedding Celebration of David and Vickie

One of the most interesting and playful parts of officiating is hearing how couples meet and "fall in love." For David and Vickie their story began at the Karma Lounge. Isn't that just too perfect!!!

They wanted a ceremony that would acknowledge family, have some traditional elements yet be genuine and heartfelt.

The ceremony and reception both took place at the Hotel 100, right in the heart of downtown Seattle. The light in the atrium was "heavenly."

Dave's son and daughter sat in the front row. The couple wanted to recognize what a huge part their children play in their lives and how proud they are of both of them. (Weddings are such a great time to show appreciation for those we love.)

There was so much to be happy about. Good feelings and joy permeated the service. Isn't that great?

Love in the Library

As you know, in the summer many cruise ships depart from Seattle and make their way along the coast to Alaska. People from all over the country, as well as the world, travel here. Which is what this bride and groom decided to do. Imagine this: flying from Texas, arriving in Seattle, enjoying a night at the iconic Salish Lodge (can you get more Pacific Northwest than that), experiencing a sweet wedding near Snoqualmie Falls, boarding the cruise ship and honeymooning while touring some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

There are many paths to enjoy near the Falls.

Having just experienced my first cruise, all I can say is "Wow!"

We met near the Lodge, then strolled to the meadow near the Falls and decided it was the perfect place for the wedding ceremony to take place.

It was a sweet and simple ceremony.

The couple selected Why Marriage by Mari Nichols-Haining as part of the ceremony wording:

Geoff and Jen Make it Official at the Liberty Theater

Aren't they an adorable family?

Kent and I had so much fun assisting Jen and Geoff create a ceremony that was just right for them. A bit of tradition, a bit of whimsy -- it all came together.

Geoff and his "guys" were dressed and ready. Looking "cool" and "hot" in their shades.

While the ladies were looking their best ... and enjoying themselves.

Love the historic quality of the theater.

Everyone gathered at the Theater. Jennifer explained that when she was young, The Liberty Theater was a state-of-the art movie theater. Her mother and father would take her and her sister to see the latest releases. She remembers everyone waiting outside, eager to find their favorite seats when the doors opened. Since she usually fell asleep during the movie, she would be dressed in her pajamas. She and Geoff continue to share a passion for movies. There is nothing better than to snuggle together, share a bowl of popcorn and watch a movie.

Of course, everyone got ready in their own way.

Nuptials Exchanged by Brian and Karen at the Alexis Hotel

Destination weddings are fun! What better place to gather than the Pacific Northwest -- it's beautiful and there's a lot to do whether you are here for a few days ... or a week or two. Guests traveled from from Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee, from DC, Ohio and Minnesota to celebrate with Brian and Karen. Everyone seemed to have a great time!

The bride and groom decided on a traditional candle lighting after exchanging their vows. It is a wonderful way to symbolize their unity, particularly indoors where the candle light warms the room.

Kent and I always look forward to the vows and then the unity ceremony because there is a special joyful feeling that radiates from the bride and groom. I smile just looking at this photo.

And then, Kent pronounced them Mr. and Mrs. it was time for the kiss! Everyone was delighted!

You can never have too many kisses!!!

And then on to the celebratation. I love cake ... and just looking at this one makes me crave a piece. It was made by Kelli Morse of Kelli's Creations and the bride and groom gave it a thumbs up for both looks and taste.

Thank you so much for helping us create the perfect ceremony. It was everything we could have wished for ... and more! It was a beautiful, personalized, and memorable wedding ceremony.

Kent, thank you so much for performing our ceremony. You were a big hit! Everyone commented on how smoothly everything went. And we could't have been happier.

Chris and Donna Share Their Commitment of Love at the Salish Lodge

Oh ... the holidays are the perfect time to share love ... and to celebrate commitment! I couldn't wait to post this and used photos that I took (I think I need to work on my lighting a bit but you get the idea.) After the original post, I received photos from Brittany, Donna's daughter, which I added!

Both the ceremony and the celebration took place in the Falls Terrace Room of Salish Lodge. It was quite chilly outside and the falls were gushing because of all the rain we have had.

So being inside with a real fire in the fireplace and tons of candles was so romantic and warm.

The decorated tree reflected the couple's selection of green and white as their colors. There was an abundance of white roses, white lights, white table linens and green napkins.

The table settings were exquisite. Donna's daughter made the paper rose and twig napkin ring, as well as te beads and rose that decorated the favor box.

It was an intimate affair of about 40 people. Just perfect!! It gave Chris and Donna time to talk with everyone. Plus, it was a group ready to dance. I think everyone was on the dance floor.

Trevor and Kristin Celebrate Their Wedding at The Rainier Club

A very classy couple, a very classy setting, a very classy wedding. Kristin and Trevor are so full of love and care for each other. Their joy is contagious.

And The Rainier Club suited them perfectly.

Kim and Adam of La Vie Photography created a photojournal of their day that really gives you a feel for their ceremony and their celebration.

There were so many personal touches that made the day memorable. One of my favorites is when Kristin's father, Kurt, played his guitar and sang "Annie's Song" to the bride and groom during the ceremony. Lovely!

All went well! I believe all the planning turned a dream to a reality that Trevor and Kristin will remember forever! Wishing the two a life together that is as wonderful as their wedding day.

Richard and Cindy Wed at Intimate Ceremony in Parsons Garden

Cindy and Richard were very clear about the experience they wanted to have on their wedding day. They wished to share the day with their families, to enjoy being able to talk and celebrate their good fortune with those who are closest to them, to enjoy a simple and elegant wedding ceremony.

So they selected Parsons Garden in Queen Anne as the site for their ceremony. It is a truly lovely, secluded garden with beautiful landscaping and just blocks from the iconic Seattle views offered by Kerry Park (a very busy and quite public park).

Richard and Cindy entered together. Cindy proceeded around the circle, gathering flowers from each person to create her bouquet.

Flowers were strewn in the center to define the sacred circle within which they would express their vows.

Keeping with the low-key, elegant feeling, guitar music was presented by Aloha Danny. (Acoustic guitar is perfect for Parsons Garden because amplification is not allowed.)

Of course, everyone had a great view!

The Dalai Lama said, “As human beings we all want to be happy ... We have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace." Richard and Cindy have found peace and happiness with each other and were ready to exchange their marriage vows.

Afterward, it was time to just rejoice and just have fun.

We wish Cindy and Richard years of happiness together ... years as unique and interesting as their wedding ceremony!

Seattle offers great photo opportunities

One of my favorite remembrances from Kent's family are two magnetic Scottie dogs: one is white and one is black. We have them on our refrigerator. Being magnetic, they are attracted (irresistibly) to one another.

How classic - Post Alley.

When I saw Rachel and Allen together, I felt it was the same. There was a magnetic force that drew them together. And I noticed the biggest smiles when they looked at each other. Here are two photos of them. The sequence reminds me of the Scotties: two people who are meant to be together.

During the ceremony, the two only had eyes for each other.

The vows have been spoken, the rings exchanged, Allen and Rachel are wed!

SODO Park is a popular and dramatic wedding venue. A favorite since it opened!

Coming from two different heritages, the ceremony and the reception reflected both. Allen and Rachel wanted to honor everyone and to have family and friends feel comfortable.

Yes, there is always time for a kiss! Those first few after the ceremony are especially sweet.

Ben and Leaha Celebrate the Quintessential Seattle Wedding

This couple decided to wed at the Woodland Park Rose Garden. Classic! And, they had photos taken pre-ceremony at the oh-so-wonderful Kerry Park. Quite the view. Quite an amazing couple.

The weather was even Seattle weather ... and Ben and Leaha made the most of it! Love their it-really-doesn't-matter-what-the-weather-is-we-love-each-other attitude.

The wedding party was in high spirits, too ... and they were well prepared. I really believe umbrellas are a fashion statement!!!

Woodland Park's Rose Garden is near where Leaha and Ben live. During free moments, they like to walk the few short blocks to the very place where they wed. It is a quiet and beautiful retreat … and they always enjoy their time there. It is a place where they can just be themselves and be together, a place that nourishes them individually and as a couple. It was the perfect place for them to wed.

Here comes the groom and his parents. Big smiles all around!

Ceremonies usually take place right in front of the gazebo (you can see it behind Kent's head). That is where Ben and Leaha chose to exchange their wedding vows too!

The expression on Leaha's face says it all!

Then the kiss (always a favorite part of the ceremony).

And now that long awaited day when the two are husband and wife has arrived. Ben and Leaha are married!!!!

I got to know Leaha and Ben through premarital sessions. They are wonderful individuals and a great couple. We hold them in the highest regard and wish for them all the best.
